First steps into writing

First steps into writing

by Samuel Herzog

Students deal with their writing skills and work out articles for a journal.

The project’s aim is for students to reduce their fear of writing and develop an appreciation of their texts. Their texts are published in a journal to ensure that this does not go unnoticed. Three to four such journals are published each semester, each devoted to a different topic. Larger classes are divided into smaller editorial groups of four to six students. Each group works on a given number of pages. On a rotating basis, one group at a time is responsible for the title page.

  • The students write a text on a chosen topic, from which they – in group work – then develop an article for the magazine.
  • Each editorial group develops ideas on how to deal with the respective topic.
  • All participants individually write texts on the subject, which are discussed within the group, improved, illustrated, given a layout, edited again, and finally published.

A hot air balloon is flying in the upper right as well as a wing flapping aircraft. There are clouds in the background. There is a spider web on the tree on the right.
